Could Frank Miller’s classic The Dark Knight Returns be up for a possible feature film adaptation? The question was asked at this year’s New York Comic Con and Batman producer Michael Uslan gave his glowing endorsement.
Miller’s four-issue comic book miniseries, Batman: The Dark Knight Returns, was first published in 1986. It has since become one of the most popular graphic novel/trade paperbacks of all time. It reintroduced Batman to the general public as the psychologically dark character of his original 1930s conception, and helped to usher in an era of “grim and gritty” superheroes from the mid-1980s to mid-1990s.

Set 20 years in the future, criminals run amok and a gang called the Mutants terrorize Gotham City as superheros are a thing of the past. Bruce Wayne has been retired from crime fighting for ten years following the death of Jason Todd, the second Robin. Despite Wayne’s funding the rehabilitation of Harvey Dent (Two-Face), Dent returns to crime. Wayne dons the Batman costume again and apprehends Dent, but the populace debates whether Batman is a savior.

This movie is slated for 2008, while the next Superman movie is tenativly in 2009. Recent reports suggest that Warner DC is moving on Justice League as well. they've hired writers to script it.

        HOPE NOT....
FM's an ALL TIME FAVE of mine, but if I want his take on BATMAN,
I can just read the COMICS he did about him in the 1980's...
Besides, in a way, FM's kind of one of those guys who gets treated like he's GOOD JUST BECAUSE YOU'RE SUPPOSED TO THINK HE'S GOOD.... And I don't think a BATMAN movie he directs is AUTOMATICALLY GONNA BE GOOD.

Miller isn't directing. Its just the model for the script. It'll be directed by the guy who did the last movie: Batman Begins. Likewise, Bryan Singer is still directing the next Superman.

that sucks...BB was not that great. Half-wit plot, and poor cinematography for the fight scenes, just like the last three Batmans. Give it back to Burton already. Hell, give it to Jackie Chan so at least the fight scenes (arguably a big part of the movie) will be comprehensible, and not filmed in medium to close up and edited by phonics monkeys. Sorry, just tired of watching lame batman movies...

Alot of none asian directors just can't direct good fight scenes. After watching a good amount of asian cinema you see just how inept hollywood directors are when it comes to that. I would love to see what yuen woo ping could do with a batman movie or even john woo or some one else that can do good fight/action scenes. That is if hollywood didn't tie their hands in the first place...

I can say, second hand, they are filming this movie right now. My friend in Chicago ran into the film crew last weekend and asked them what movie they were filming. They confirmed it was a Batman movie. My friend took a bunch of pictures and talked to a few of the crew members before being asked to move along from the filming area. The pictures he took look tantalizing!
