Time for a little rant...
One thing that bugs me while reading a comic is the tactic some writers have of putting a character's name in BOLDFACE when they're addressed for the first time.
"Oh, hello SUPERMAN, I was just talking to BLACK CANARY."
"Yes, HAWKMAN, I overheard you."
Since boldface type is used when a character uses a word in a certain situation, like "Don't you DARE point that HIDEOUS THING at ME!", it seems silly when it's the chatracter name that is being stressed, "What a beautiful day, isn't it BATMAN?". It doesn't feel like natural dialogue. Is it that writers feel a reader just aren't paying attention and not get who a character is talking to?
I know, it's a nit-picky thing, but hey, Tribe is free.

Re: BOLDFACED Intrusion
Wed, December 7, 2005 - 2:50 PMI'm with ya Frank! And when they go further than bold by using the individual hero's font for the name. A comic is like a tv series. You don't see people going around every episode re-introducing themselves. -

Wed, December 7, 2005 - 3:42 PMI agree, but I do have to say I get annoyed with DC who who never tell me who the heck all these people were or what powers they had. It gets redundant when you know the characters, but when you're trying to pick up a book and you can't figure out villins from heroes it's frustrating.
